Saddened by the death of Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse on 6 March, we recorded our version of Sad & Beautiful World as a very humble tribute. You can listen to & download the song for free on our bandcamp page. The song was largely played and recorded by Patrick, with the invaluable contributions of Michel van der Woude and Maarten Holl edited and produced by Jack Gasoline.

As you may have noticed Yoko Ono & the Plastic Ono Band released a new album in 2009 (with Sean Lennon and Cornelius). To enable everyone to join in with the celebration of this memorable occasion they held the The Sun Is Down remix competition. As longtime fan Patrick made a remix and produced it together with Jack Gasoline. On January 7 the Plastic Ono Crew posted the results of the competition. Although we didn't win, we're happy enough to enable you to listen to our contribution.

Since our 2003 EP Silence Is Now is almost sold out (Send an email to obtain one of the last limited edition originals) we've decided to give it away for free! You can listen to or download the whole shebang! Including such semi-legendary tracks as Reebok Town, You're Right and The Last Waltz. Feel free to enjoy!

Tom and Patrick joined forces in the Dutch radio program Theater van het Sentiment in search for the new 'Zangeres Zonder Naam' (famous dutch traditional 'smartlappen' singer). They played a slightly ironic combination of both 'Ach Vaderlief (toe drink niet meer)' and ''t Was Aan de Costa del Sol'. You can also listen to the program online. Pondertone is the second artist in 'Theater van het Sentiment 2e uur' right after 'Veilig Achterop (bij vader op de fiets)' by Paul van Vliet. Although we didn't win the competition, we had a lot of fun.

From 26 till 28 September we worked on a soundtrack for a short film by Anna van der Kruis and as such took part in the 48hour film project. Two tunes eventually wound up in the film, which also featured Ilse Heus, who is a regular guest at Pondertone gigs and recordings. Even though we didn't exactly win anything, all involved were quite pleased with the result and we made it to the big screen on 2 october. We hope to put all te music we made in the process online in a while, but you can already watch the film which is called Blues in Boxes.

Wednesday 31 October Patrick was interviewed for local radiostation Utracks, concerning what is called 'de Schaamplaat'. This item celebrates the musical guilty pleasures of musicians from Utrecht. In Patrick's case this is amongst many others Yoko Ono. You can listen to the interview (in Dutch) at Utracks, it is right at the end of the first hour of the show (52:40 min). It's quite a funny interview because Patrick obviously really loves Yoko's music. In fact Patrick tells the interviewers he and Tom are going to play a new Sonic Deterrent piece on January 6 2008 in the Centraal Museum, Utrecht, entirely devoted to Yoko Ono. More news on this later.

September 2007
Thursday 13 September Pondertone played a surprise support (it was a bit of a surprise for us too) for Tom Helsen in Ekko, Utrecht. Just to top it off we played an acoustic set with two brandnew songs. The prize connected to the article on 3voor12/Utrecht was won by Anna, we hope to play in her livingroom soon. You can watch the promofilm for Nothing Like A Blow To The Skull online but you can also buy the DVD. It not only comes in a specially designed package, but it also contains the exclusive bonusfilm made by Gerben.

We have a new drummer. His name is Gerben Schmidt, whom you might know from filling in for Nicolette on a couple of occassions last year. He will also be playing on the album we are currently working on. Nicolette has decided to quit Pondertone in order to be able to spend some time at home every now and then. We regret her leaving, because we had a great time. She's a wonderful person and a great drummer. You can see her play on our footage from the Snake & Apacolips launch as well as our Paradiso gig, just check Vision.

Pondertone is currently working on the new album Fate Presto. We started the sessions 20, 21 and 22 March in Gerben Schmidt's apartment. The sessions were produced and engineered by Jack Gasoline of the Gasoline Brothers. We recorded all acoustic piano parts, double bass and some acoustic guitar as well as the infamous Bongo Hairdo Choir. We keep you updated. No release date is set yet.

January 2006
You can listen to a recording of the piece A Hearty Breakfast At The Eve Of War on the Sound page. We composed it especially for the opening of De Kunststad at the NDSM Werf Amsterdam. The piece was performed by Patrick and Tom on 16 December 2005. The version presented here is a try out, recorded a few days earlier. Before listening please pay attention to the following: don't expect a song with melodies, verses and choruses. A Heart Breakfast At The Eve Of War is part of our series of largely improvised compositions called Sonic Deterrents and runs approximately 30 minutes!

Our show at the Paradiso Amsterdam can be viewed at fabchannel, it's listed under LOCALS ONLY OCTOBER 02-11-2005! Including Prelude to B. (For Britanny), Stetson Head, 3000 Words (For Brian) and others. In their review of the evening LiveXS wrote: “Pondertone has it all. Cool band to listen to and watch. Versatile obstinate songs, ranging from countryrock to psychedelic shit, they pull it off nicely.”
